Govt approves state strategy for equal female and male rights until 2030

KYIV. Aug 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a state strategy for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men until 2030.
Representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk said on Telegram channel that this decision was made at a government meeting on Friday.
In particular, the state strategy for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men until 2030 was approved, and the operational plan for its implementation for 2022-2024 was approved.
According to the statement, the Office of the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy developed the document in line with the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women provided to Ukraine as a result of consideration of the periodic report on the implementation of the UN Convention, Ukraine’s European integration obligations and the decision of the Commission for the Coordination of Interaction of Executive Bodies to Ensure Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men.
It is noted that the state strategy for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men for the period up to 2030 is a comprehensive strategic document that defines priority areas for consolidated actions of central and local executive authorities, local governments, civil society institutions, business entities to reduce gender inequality in all social areas.
In particular, the document focuses on four strategic goals: effective and coordinated functioning of the national mechanism for ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men, which will create a basis for taking into account the needs of different groups of women and men in decision-making in all areas and at all levels; effectively countering all forms of violence, including those related to conflict; providing women and men with equal rights and opportunities for human development in the field of education, health care, social protection, culture and sports; ensuring equal participation of women and men in various areas of economic activity, which will create the basis for slowing down the processes of increasing the level of poverty of the population associated with the aggression of Russia in Ukraine.
"The document is important for the formation and implementation of state policy in all areas, ensuring the sustainability of Ukraine, its restoration and further development, it is important to preserve the achievements of the state policy to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men of previous years, as well as the integration of a gender approach into the National Strategy for the Recovery of Ukraine and other program documents," the statement said.
