Govt approves increase in subsidies for heating season for residents of frontline territories
KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved an increase in housing subsidies during the heating season for residents of the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions adjacent to the temporarily occupied territories, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereschuk said.
"Today, the government adopted an important decree in the interests of residents of the districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions adjacent to the temporarily occupied territories. The problem is that local residents on the frontline are forced to use household electrical appliances to heat their homes, because their homes were left without heating and gas supplies as a result of the hostilities. That is, these households have to spend more money to pay for electricity," she wrote on Facebook.
According to her, the government has changed the procedure for calculating housing subsidies during the heating season so as to increase their size for this category of citizens.
"About 12,000 households can receive subsidies on average in the amount of UAH 2,500. The increase in charges will be financed from the budget program of the Ministry of Social Policy," Vereschuk said.
