Germany wishes to extend agreement on Russian gas transit via Ukraine for 5-10 years – ambassador
KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Germany would like to extend the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine for 5-10 years, German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen has said.
"I think our idea is to extend this contract, which exists between Naftogaz and Gazprom, which we also helped to sign in 2019, we could extend this for five or even 10 years, with guarantees, if not transit, then at least money for Ukraine, as it is now [enshrined in the contract with Gazprom]," Feldhusen said on Radio NV on Tuesday.
The ambassador said that Ukraine should become an energy producer and exporter, not a transit country.
"Transit is always bad, because it can be stopped. To produce, to be an important exporter for Europe is much more important, in my opinion," she said.
