Germany begins transferring Leopard 2 tanks to Czech Republic to replace Soviet armored vehicles sent to Ukraine
KYIV. Dec 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Wednesday, the Czech Republic received from Germany the first of 14 Leopard 2 tanks designed to replace Soviet tanks donated by Prague to Ukraine, the EFE agency has reported.
The tank was delivered from Germany to a military base in the east of the Czech Republic.
"Thus, we are switching to modern technology, abandoning the weapons of the Soviet period," the agency quotes the words of Czech Defence Minister Jana Černochová.
EFE said that earlier the Czech Republic concluded an agreement with Germany, according to which the German side will transfer 14 modern tanks to it in exchange for dozens of Soviet armored vehicles sent to the Ukrainian military earlier this year.
