German President, Dpty PM Reznikov paying visit to Chernihiv region
KYIV. Oct 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, has arrived on a visit to the town of Koriukivka, Chernihiv region.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Reintegration of Ukraine, the President of Germany spoke with Ukrainian and German historians about the tragic events that took place in Koriukivka in 1943, visited Koriukivka Historical Museum and laid flowers at the monument to the victims of the Koriukivska tragedy.
Also, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany met with the teaching staff and schoolchildren of Koriukivka secondary school No. 1. "Reznikov thanked Steinmeier for consistent support of Ukraine and noted that the visit of the German official to Koriukivka is very important, because it shows that peace and human lives are the main values," the message says.
The Koriukivska tragedy is the massacre of 6,700 residents of the village of Koriukivka (now a town in Chernihiv region of Ukraine), committed on March 1-2, 1943 by the SS and the Hungarian military gendarmerie during the Second World War.
