German govt allocates EUR 4.8 mln to support veterans, their families, families of fallen Ukrainian defenders
KYIV. Jan 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The International Organization for Migration and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, have launched an 18-month project aimed at increasing the resilience of Ukraine through community-level integration and strengthening the capacity for psychosocial support for veterans, their families and communities, according to the Ukrainian government press service.
"The Pathway to Sustainability project, funded by the German government, in particular the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will support state veteran politicians, local authorities, 14 public organizations and institutions. A total of EUR 4.8 million has been allocated for its implementation," the government said in the statement.
It specifies that within the project, in particular, research will be carried out on the social reintegration of veterans and their contribution to society, as well as technical expertise for partners.
In addition, it also provides for the transfer of equipment and minor repairs of premises, support for the activities of service centers.
"Some 25 centers of veteran development, which the Ministry of Veterans plans to open throughout Ukraine, will receive equipment to promote the economic reintegration of veterans," the government said.
It is reported that the project will also raise public awareness of the availability of psychosocial support and will aim to reduce stigma when seeking mental health services.
At the same time, the announcement clarifies that the planned activities will empower mental health professionals who work directly with veterans and their families to provide individual and group counseling.
