Georgian Coast Guard holds joint exercise with NATO ships in Black Sea
TBILISI. Oct 5 (Interfax) – Motorboats of the Coast Guard of the Georgian Interior Ministry’s Border Police have taken part in a joint training exercise in the Black Sea with ships from the NATO Permanent Second Anti-Mine Unit (SNMCMG2) currently in Georgia’s territorial waters, the press service for the Georgian Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.
"The goal of the exercise was to enhance the level of interoperability between naval forces of Georgia and NATO and to bolster Georgia’s defense potential," the press service said.
Five SNMCMG2 ships entered Georgia’s territorial waters on September 28. The group consists of the Spanish Navy’s ESPS Ray warship, the Italian Navy’s ITS Viareggio, Bulgaria’s BGS Shkval, the Romanian Navy’s ROS Lt. Lupu Dinescu minesweeper, and Turkey’s TCG Edincik warship.
This is the second visit by a NATO group of ships to Georgia in 2021.
