Georgia sees all-time high of 81 deaths from COVID-19 in past 24 hours
TBILISI. Sept 2 (Interfax) – Georgia has seen a new record high of 81 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the Georgian Health Ministry said on Thursday.
A previous all-time high of 79 deaths was reported by Georgia on August 26.
According to the ministry, the country recorded 3,212 new infections on Thursday, which is lower than last week when more than 4,000 people contracted the novel coronavirus in Georgia each day.
The cumulative number of coronavirus infections currently stands at 556,909, including 7,563 deaths.
The Georgian government’s Inter-Agency Coordination Council on COVID-19 decided on Tuesday to extend the ban on city municipal transport due to the high morbidity rate.
The ban on public transport was extended until September 13.
General education schools and higher educational establishments postponed the beginning of the new school year from September 15 to October 4. Kindergartens will also resume operation on October 4.
