Gazprom's underpayment to Naftogaz is about $200 mln – Naftogaz head

KYIV. Oct 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The amount of Russian Gazprom’s underpayment to NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy for gas transit is about $200 million, Yuriy Vitrenko, the head of the board of the Ukrainian company, said.

"Approximately $200 million. This is what was not paid as of September, but this amount is increasing every day," Vitrenko said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

At the same time, he noted that the requirement for underpayment is the first requirement recorded in the arbitration petition, and then the company is working on other requirements.

At the same time, the head of Naftogaz pointed out that a possible stop by Russia of gas transit through Ukraine, which the company is preparing for, could also become one of the subjects of consideration in arbitration.

"We will issue invoices (after the stoppage of transit), and perhaps the halt of transit will also be one of the subjects of consideration by the arbitration – you need to be ready for this," Vitrenko explained.

As reported, on September 9, Naftogaz announced that it had filed a petition for arbitration against the Russian Gazprom with the International Arbitration Court in order to claim funds from the Russian company for the service provided for organizing the transportation of natural gas through Ukraine, which were not paid on time and in in full.
