Gas supplies to Ukraine decreased 86.5% down in eight months
KYIV. Sept 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Natural gas supplies to Ukraine from the EU in January-August 2021 decreased by 86.5% compared to the same period in 2020, to 1.7 billion cubic meters, the press service of Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) reports.
According to its data, in January they amounted to 439 million cubic meters, in February – 29 million cubic meters, in March – 8 million cubic meters, in April – 77 million cubic meters, in May – 8 million cubic meters, in June – 90 million cubic meters, in July – 498 million cubic meters, in August – 567 million cubic meters.
Export and re-export of gas from Ukraine for the eight months of 2021 amounted to 886 million cubic meters.
The GTSOU also reported that in August a test supply of gas was carried out by the Trans-Balkan gas corridor: 2,300 cubic meters of gas were imported from Romania.
"We continue to work on the development of natural gas transportation routes in the Trans-Balkan direction to increase import capacities. This will contribute to the diversification of gas sources and better cooperation with our international partners," head of the company Serhiy Makogon said.
As reported, natural gas supplies to Ukraine in 2020 increased by 12% compared to 2019 – to 15.9 billion cubic meters. In particular Slovakia supplied 10.2 billion cubic meters of gas, Hungary – 4.2 billion cubic meters, Poland – 1.5 billion cubic meters. At the same time, 45% of the volumes were imported by the backhaul, which has become available since the beginning of 2020.
