G7 Ambassadors call dialogue on reforming HCJ constructive, see mutual commitment to conduct reform

KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The G7 ambassadors called the dialogue in the Office of the President of Ukraine on reforming the High Council of Justice (HCJ) of Ukraine constructive, and heard from all sides a unanimous desire to reform the HCJ.
"G7 Ambassadors were pleased to join today’s constructive dialogue with government, parliament, & judiciary on reforming the High Council of Justice, hosted by Ukrainian President’s Office. Ambassadors heard from all parties, including the unanimous Ukraine’s commitment to delivering HCJ reform," the UK Presidency of the G7 Ambassadors’ Support Group in Kyiv reported on Twitter.
They stressed that HCJ reform is a historic opportunity to deliver the effective, honest judiciary that Ukrainians demand and deserve.
"Ambassadors called upon the Council of Judges and all Ukraine’s partners to ensure the swift nomination of Ukrainian experts to join the HCJ Ethics Council," the message reads.
In addition, the ambassadors highlighted international support for reforming the HCJ in accordance with the laws passed by the Verkhovna Rada in July, including providing highly qualified international experts for the Ethics Council who will work alongside their Ukrainian counterparts once they are appointed.
As reported, a working meeting dedicated to judicial reform in Ukraine was held at the President’s Office with the participation of the Chairman of the Council of Judges, the Supreme Court, representatives of the parliament, government, as well as ambassadors of the G7 countries and the European Union. The participants adopted a joint statement.
