Funds saved within People's Bayraktar campaign spent on purchase of space satellite for Ukraine – Prytula

KYIV. Aug 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian volunteer Serhiy Prytula, the founder of the eponymous charitable foundation, said on Thursday that the funds saved as part of the People’s Bayraktar campaign (more than UAH 600 million) were spent on the purchase of a space satellite for the Ukrainian army.

"Ukrainians, you are space! We bought a satellite. But this is not just one satellite. It gives us access to a database of satellite images from the constellation of ICEYE satellites. And we bought this access more than a year in advance," Prytula said in a video statement in Thursday.

According to him, thanks to this, the Ukrainian army will receive high-quality satellite images as quickly as possible, which will help in the operational planning of military operations.

"There will be a lot of explosions," the volunteer said.

He also expressed gratitude to Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov, Head of the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense Kyrylo Budanov (whose agency was granted access to the satellite), founder of EOS DATA Analytics Max Poliakov, thanks to whom the volunteers were able to carry out the said transaction "quickly, quietly and competently" as well as to all those involved in fundraising within the People’s Bayraktar campaign.

The People’s Bayraktar campaign is a fundraising initiative created by Ukrainian volunteers on June 22, 2022, and aimed at purchasing three Bayraktar TB2 UAVs. The amount necessary for this (about UAH 500 million) was collected in three days. On the evening of June 24, it had already reached UAH 600 million, which would be enough to buy four Bayraktar TB2, but the drone manufacturer Baykar said that it would not accept payment for the UAV and would transfer them to Ukraine free of charge.
