French FM: We must deliver promised weapons to Ukraine quickly

KYIV. Feb 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna stressed the need to send Ukraine the promised weapons that are needed now, primarily artillery, ammunition and air defense systems.

“Strength is needed, so we speed up what we do. We need to ship what we owe quickly. And we must focus on the weapons that Ukraine needs now, artillery, ammunition, air defense systems. Debate about the rest may be later, but this is not what Ukraine needs right now,” she said at the Munich Security Conference on Friday.

When asked if Ukraine should sit down at the negotiating table with Russia, Colonna said “not at the moment.” At the same time, as she believes, the war in Ukraine “will end with a discussion when Ukraine is ready, on its terms.”

“We have to make President Putin realize that he made a mistake, made this terrible mistake. It didn’t work out the way he thought it would,” she said.

The Colonna also said “something will happen after the war,” but the precondition for this is the victory over aggression.

The head of the Foreign Ministry said France would supply Ukraine with assistance, including military assistance, as much as needed, although “no one wants a long war.”
