French FM warns Moscow about 'strategic consequences' in case of escalation of situation with Ukraine

PARIS. Dec 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia will face strong consequences and sanctions in the event of an attack on Ukraine, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Wednesday.

"Russia was made firmly aware that strategic and strong consequences would follow if there is a new violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine," the French media said, citing the French minister.

Le Drian also said this is about unprecedented sanctions, the introduction of which Western countries refused in the past, in the situation with Crimea in 2014.

"We are following the situation around Ukraine with great attention. The heads of state and government expressed their determination that sovereignty should not be violated," he said.
