France, Germany regret OSCE Observer Mission's end of mandate on Russian-Ukrainian border

KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – France and Germany regret the decision of Russia to oppose the extension of the mandate of the OSCE observer mission at the Hukove and Donetsk entry-exit checkpoints across the Russian-Ukrainian border.

This is stated in a joint statement by the speakers of the Foreign Ministries of France and Germany, according to the website of the French Embassy in Ukraine.

"For seven years, the Mission has been providing objective information on the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, increasing transparency and building confidence. Its termination will irreversibly weaken the monitoring of the interstate border provided for by the Minsk Protocol of September 5, 2014," according to the embassy website.

The embassy said the creation of the Mission and the approval of its mandate were initiated by the Foreign Ministers of the Normandy format countries with the aim of improving the security situation and strengthening mutual trust.

"We call on the Russian Federation to constructively participate in our joint efforts to find a lasting solution to the conflict," the officials said in the joint statement.
