Four more ships with grain leave Ukraine as part of Black Sea initiative – Turkish Defense Ministry

ISTANBUL. Sept 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Another four dry-cargo ships with grain left Ukrainian ports on Wednesday as part of the Istanbul initiative to export food from Ukraine, the Anadolu agency reports with reference to the Turkish Defense Ministry.

At the same time, the agency did not specify where the ships are going and with what kind of grain. The Ministry of Defense added that the shipment of grain continues as planned.

The agency notes that since the conclusion of the Istanbul Agreement, about 100 dry cargo ships have left Ukraine with more than 2.5 million tonnes of agricultural food.

Earlier Wednesday, the UN reported that the Joint Coordinating Centre (JCC) had given permission for five vessels to leave the Ukrainian ports on Wednesday.

"JCC has authorized the departure of five ships carrying a total of 129,538 tonnes of grain and other food products as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative," the statement said.

The UN explained that the ships Dignity (8,200 tonnes of sunflower seeds), Eliana (5,200 tonnes of sunflower oil) and Kaptan Cevdet (2,472 tonnes of soybeans) will go to Turkey. The Seaguardian ship will deliver 62,266 tonnes of barley, wheat and sunflower seeds to Spain, while the Super Henry ship will transport 51,400 tonnes of wheat to Kenya.

The organization clarified that to date, more than 200 ships have received permission to move under the Istanbul Food Deal, 108 of them are sent to Ukrainian ports.
