Forty-five Latvian–made drones, 15 SUVs to be bought with money collected in Latvia for purchase of Bayraktars for Ukraine – Embassy

KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Tactical unmanned aerial vehicles manufactured in Latvia and off-road vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be purchased with funds that were previously collected by Latvian citizens to purchase a Turkish Bayraktar attack drone for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Facebook page of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.

"As of today, more than EUR 900,000 have been collected. Taking into account the current military situation, as well as the duration of fundraising within the framework of this project, its organizers and participants were invited to use the donations collected for the purchase of 45 tactical drones of Latvian production and 15 SUVs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which may be ready for shipment in the near future," the message says.

The participants of the press conference, which was held at the embassy on Wednesday with the participation of Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksandr Mishchenko and Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks, appealed to everyone who donated within the framework of the Bayraktar fundraising project to allow changing the purpose of the project and now purchase these tactical drones and SUVs for the Ukrainian army.

According to the Latvian edition of TV NET, those donors who do not agree with the change in the purpose of the donation can apply to the charity organization until October 6 and get their money back until October 6.

Collecting donations via started on the morning of August 16. At the moment, about EUR 0.9 million has been collected from the required EUR 5 million for the purchase of Turkish-made combat aircraft.
