Former first dpty mayor of Odesa to be taken into custody

KYIV. Feb 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On February 21, the investigator-judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) satisfied the motion of the detective of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and applied the measure of restraint in the form of detention to former first deputy mayor of Odesa Mykhailo Kuchuk, the HACC has reported.

“After the arrest of the suspect, and no later than 48 hours after his delivery to the place of criminal proceedings, the court will consider the issue of applying a preventive measure in the form of detention or changing it to a milder one,” the HACC said on its website on Wednesday.

The ex-official is suspected of committing criminal offenses under Part 3 of Article 255 of the Criminal Code, Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to media reports, Kuchuk is currently hiding.

According to the Anti-Corruption Center, in January, while already abroad, Kuchuk resigned of his own accord. Kuchuk is one of the suspects in the case of a criminal organization organized by Odesa businessmen Borys Kaufman and Aleks Borukhovych.

At the height of the war from March to July 2022, Kuchuk, according to the NABU, received UAH 900,000 from a criminal group that kept officials of Odesa City Council under control.
