Foreign Ministry of Ukraine strongly condemns illegal export of grain by Russia from temporarily occupied territories of Kherson region
KYIV. April 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine strongly condemns the criminal actions of the Russian Federation on the so-called expropriation of crops from farmers in Kherson region, according to a commentary on the website of the ministry.
"Such a decision of the Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk Territory of the Russian Federation is nothing more than a direct continuation of the criminal policy of the Soviet government, responsible for the massive artificial famine in Ukraine in 1921-1923, the Holodomor of 1932-1933 and the massive artificial famine of 1946-1947. By the theft of grain, which the invaders call "expropriation," the Russian Federation continues the work of the Stalinists and Nazis," the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry also stressed that the export of grain from Kherson region, the blocking of shipments from Ukrainian ports and the mining of shipping routes threaten the food security of the world. Ukraine provides food for almost 400 million people worldwide, and Ukrainian grain is traditionally exported to Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
"With its illegal actions, Russia is actually stealing not only Ukraine, but also consumers abroad. According to the UN, about 1.7 billion people may face poverty and famine due to food system violations as a result of a full-scale war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine," the report says.
In addition, the Foreign Ministry noted that the aggressor country continues to deliberately block sowing work in Ukraine, destroying agricultural equipment and inflicting missile strikes throughout the country.
It is emphasized that the policy of the aggressor state calls into question the expediency of its membership in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other international organizations.
"We demand from the Russian Federation to stop the illegal theft of grain, unblock Ukrainian ports, restore freedom of navigation and allow the passage of merchant ships. We call on the international community to tighten economic sanctions in order to stop the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and worsening of the situation with food security in the world," the department said.
