FMs of Bucharest Nine to hold meeting on March 30-31, discuss war in Ukraine, NATO summit
KYIV. March 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Foreign Ministers of NATO’s eastern flank countries will arrive in Lodz (Poland) on March 30-31, where they will hold a meeting before the upcoming Alliance summit in Vilnius.
According to the website of the Polish Foreign Ministry, representatives of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia will take part in the summit.
The main topic of discussion at this year’s meeting will be issues of European security, Russian aggression against Ukraine and NATO’s support for a struggling Ukraine.
The Bucharest Nine is a regional initiative of Poland and Romania aimed at coordinating the positions and exchanging views of the countries of the eastern flank of NATO on security issues. The formula of consultations between these nine countries was opened by the meeting of the Presidents in Warsaw in 2014. In November 2015, the Central and Eastern European countries signed a joint declaration in Bucharest.
