First Ukrainian mission to the moon uses domestic innovative titanium of TitanEra company
KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Spacebit has announced the first Ukrainian mission to the moon, which will take place in 2022, according to a press release from TitanEra LLC, associated with the developer of titanium ores Production and Commercial Company Velta LLC.
According to the press release, Ukrainian enterprises are developing and testing some of the equipment for studying the Earth’s satellite. In particular, the body of the research probe will be made of innovative green titanium from TitanEra LLC.
It is specified that the probe body is planned to be printed from titanium powder, which TitanEra receives using its own patented Titanera Process technology. Within the framework of the R&D center, the company has already produced the required amount of raw materials for 3D printing of the lunar rover parts and is ready to proceed to the production and testing stages.
"I believe in the commercialization of space and the prospects for the development of mining on the moon. And it is important that thanks to private initiatives, Ukraine is already moving in this direction behind the leading countries of the world," TitanEra Director General Andriy Brodsky said.
The Ukrainian-British mission will be the fourth to deliver the cargo to the lunar surface. The data collected online will be transmitted to the Earth, and the scientific societies of Ukraine and Great Britain will be engaged in their study. The previous three countries that collected information from the moon – the United States, China and Russia – classified the materials received.
TitanEra is a Ukrainian company based on 15 years of experience of the Velta team in the global titanium industry. TitanEra is the first in the world to build a pilot plant for the production of titanium end products, bypassing the titanium sponge stage, and relies on its own patented Titanera Process technology. The technology allows titanium to be produced faster, with significantly lower energy consumption, and without toxic waste and emissions. Lines for the manufacture of test products have already been launched within the R&D center.
Velta LLC was registered in April 2000. The main activity is the extraction and production of ilmenite concentrate.
Spacebit is a privately held company that develops space robotics technologies for lunar and planetary missions. Spacebit was founded by Ukrainian Pavlo Tanasiuk in 2014.
