First in Ukraine innovative nursery created in Lviv region to contribute to forest restoration – Ministry
KYIV. Sept 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An innovative nursery for the cultivation of highly productive forest species for the restoration of the forests of the Carpathians and the plains has been opened in Lviv region, the Ministry of Community and Territories Development has reported.
The press service of the Ministry said on Thursday that the innovative forestry complex for growing seedlings with a closed root system was created in Lviv region. The project was implemented on the basis of state-owned enterprise Lviv Forest Seed Breeding Center.
"This complex is still the only one of its kind in Ukraine. It is a symbol of fundamental steps forward. Similar projects can already receive funding from the State Fund for Regional Development. Their number should grow. I am grateful to everyone involved in the implementation of the project – builders, the city, state-owned enterprises. I consider this facility a good example for the dissemination of experience in other regions of our country," Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Chernyshev said during the opening of the new facility.
The press service said that the nursery will use modern technology to grow seedlings of biotic stable, highly productive forest species for the restoration of the forests of the Carpathians and the plains: white fir, forest beech, common pine, common oak, European larch, Menzies pseudo-larch and others. In the future, it is planned to expand the forest nursery and increase the capacity for growing 15 million pieces of seedlings with a closed root system.
