Ferrexpo raises output of pellets by 1% in eight months, cuts output in Aug

KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – British-based Ferrexpo plc, which controls in Ukraine, in particular, Poltava and Yeristovo mining and processing plants (Poltava GOK and Yeristovo GOK), in January-August of this year, according to recent data, increased production of pellets by 1% compared to the same period last year, up to 7.435 million tonnes.

A representative of the company informed Interfax-Ukraine that in August production of pellets amounted to 870,000 tonnes, while in the previous month – 1 million tonnes.

At the same time, the company produced 9.93 million tonnes of iron ore concentrate, which is 7.5% more than in the same period last year (in August – 1.2 million tonnes, in July – 1.3 million tonnes).

Earlier the company reported that pellet production is likely to grow in the second half of 2021, as the pelletizer is planned to be upgraded in the first half of the year, which will increase the production of pellets by about 0.5-1 million tonnes per year. The group also plans to bring additional commercial concentrate to the market for sale this year as a result of investments that have been made to expand its processing capacity in 2020.

Ferrexpo in 2020 increased its total pellet production by 7% compared to 2019, to 11.218 million tonnes. Concentrate output increased by 5.9%, to 14 million tonnes.
