External power restored to Zaporizhia NPP
KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Specialists have completed repair work and restored external power supply to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the press service of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported.
"Both the ZNPP’s external power lines, a 750 kilovolt (kV) line and a 330 kV back-up line used for electricity supplies from the grid, were repaired, and reconnection started on Friday afternoon. At around 22:00 [on October 4] the 750 kV power supply to all six units of the ZNPP had been re-established, and the eight operating emergency diesel generators turned off and put into standby mode," Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said with reference to the information he received from the IAEA expert group who are at the ZNPP.
Eight emergency diesel generators, which provided back-up power to the plant, were turned off and placed on standby.
As reported, on Wednesday, November 2, due to Russian shelling, the last two external high-voltage power lines of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant connecting it with the Ukrainian power system were damaged.
