Expert working group as part of TCG to make list of mines with flooding risk – advisor to President's Office head

KYIV. Sept 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The expert working group as part of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group (TCG) on resolving the situation in Donbas will prepare a list of mines subject to flooding for its next meeting in order to determine a mechanism for financing technical projects to prevent environmental risks.

The corresponding statement on Facebook on Thursday was made by representative of the Ukrainian delegation in the socio-economic subgroup in the TCG, adviser to the head of the President’s Office of Ukraine Viktoria Strakhova.

"By the next meeting [of the expert group], the participants will propose a list of relevant facilities (mines) that will be the subject of the work of the expert group. The results of the work of the expert group will be used in the work of the TCG subgroup on social and environmental issues to determine mechanisms for financing technical projects to prevent environmental risks associated with the flooding of mines," wrote Strakhova.

She noted that "sooner or later, the risks of flooding of mines may be realized, which will lead to pollution of both drinking water and soil." "We are working to prevent such negative scenarios," she wrote.

As reported, on September 2, a meeting of an expert working group on environmental issues related to the flooding of mines along the contact line was held.
