Ex-owner of Deposit Files Serheyev plans to enter crypto banking, YouTube business

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The former owner of Deposit Files, Depositphotos and Crello, Dmytro Serheyev, plans to go into the fintech business and is considering a format for creating intelligent YouTube content.

"Regarding fintech – I know what I would like to improve, I just do not have a platform for this. I am now considering several startups to buy at the very early stages. This is a kind of "mixing" of crypto exchanges with real banking, something that is now on the hype itself. But I need more expertise, I just don’t have it yet," he said on the air of the Pershi Liudy podcast.

He noted that he planned to start implementing these plans for himself in 2-3 months.

Serheyev also plans to launch intellectual YouTube projects.

"I had a desire to get involved with YouTube from the start, take WAS (media resource about humanitarian culture) from the project, not sell it. But this greatly complicated the deal, so WAS was also sold. And therefore, in order to start from the beginning, from scratch, I need to gather people somewhere," he said.

He also noted that such a project is difficult to implement in Ukraine, taking into account the national characteristics of the market.

"Ukraine has a colossal problem with Russian language content. And if you make Russian language content, there will be a problem with advertisers. And if you do not rely on Google and integration, then the Ukrainian market is not enough to compensate for such projects," Serheyev said.

He also noted that he would like to engage in intelligent content for people who want to improve their level, while aiming at monetizing this content.

At the same time, he said that he had already reinvested all the funds received from the sale: partly in Cimpress shares, partly invested in a number of reliable venture capital funds.

At the end of October, the American-Irish corporation VistaPrint (part of the investment group Cimpress) acquired Ukrainian-based Depositphotos Group (combines the Depositphotos photo stock, the online editor Crello, the Lightfield photo studio, as well as the Bird In Flight and WAS media projects).

According to Forbes, Depositphotos was sold for $ 85 million in cash, of which Serheyev received about $ 50 million as the holder of a controlling stake of 55.9%.
