European Commission permits export of Ukrainian planting material of apple, plum and cherry plum to EU – State Food Service
KYIV. March 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission has renewed the permit for the export of seedlings of apple, plum and cherry plum from Ukraine to the EU countries, which was temporarily banned in December 2019.
As follows from the press release of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection on Wednesday, the opening of the European market was made possible thanks to its well-coordinated cooperation with specialists from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and members of the Ukrainian specialized association.
The result of the joint efforts was the adoption by the European Commission of EU Regulations 2022/1309 and 2023/158 on the abolition of restrictions on the export of planting material of apple, plum and cherry plum from Ukraine to the EU countries. At the same time, from 2019 to 2023, the export of these goods to the EU countries was possible only after the EFSA carried out a pest risk analysis for apple and plum quarantine pests.
“It should be noted that in order to export planting material of apple, plum and cherry plum to the EU countries, business entities need to comply with special phytosanitary requirements defined by Annex VII of EU Regulation 2019/2072, including the establishment of production sites free from quarantine pests. The aforementioned regulations are posted on the official web portal of the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection,” the ministry concluded in the statement.
As reported, the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 2022 agreed on 22 forms of international veterinary certificates for the export of livestock products to 12 countries of the world.
