European cities' assistance project for supply of Eurosities generators designed to help Ukrainians survive most difficult winter in modern history – Yermak
KYIV. Nov 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Cities Assistance project for the supply of Eurocities generators, officially launched today in Strasbourg, is designed to help Ukrainians survive the most difficult winter in modern history, said head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak.
"Generators are the main equipment that will provide basic needs of people: light, communication, access to reliable medical care in case of blackout caused by Russian strikes. We need them as a strategic reserve in conditions of complete and continuous de-energization, which may last for weeks," Yermak said, speaking via video link to the participants of the launch of the Eurosities project.
At the same time, according to him, the main priority for Ukraine today is the immediate resumption of the power grid, since depriving civilians of water supply and drainage can provoke a humanitarian catastrophe. In particular, high-voltage equipment is required: autotransformers, circuit breakers, relays, arresters.
According to the press service of the President of Ukraine, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, who took part in the launch of the project, noted for her part that the EU and its institutions remain in solidarity with Ukraine on the humanitarian, military and financial front.
She added that the provision of generators should help in providing energy and water supply for the civilian population, hospitals in Ukraine and called on all cities and regions of Europe to join this project to help Ukrainians.
