EU, Ukraine need to improve Association Agreement in line with Green Deal – European Commissioner
KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine and the European Union need to improve the Association Agreement, when reviewing it, in line with the European Green Deal.
This is the opinion that European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius, expressed in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine and the Green Deal portal.
"I know that great progress has been made on financial proposals and I sincerely hope that the same will be done on environmental proposals. Of course we need to improve them in line with our latest ambition, the European Green Deal, the biodiversity strategy and the forest strategy. I think this is exactly what we discussed with Minister [of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Roman] Abramovsky. But we are still in the process of discussions. Of course, I hope that we will quickly reach an agreement," the European Commissioner said.
As reported with reference to Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna, the first round of negotiations on revising the economic part of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU may end in autumn 2021.
