EU to provide EUR 3 bln third MFA tranche in Dec – Ministry of Economy with reference to European Commissioner
KYIV. Oct 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The third tranche of EU macro-financial assistance (MFA) to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 3 billion after the first tranche of EUR 1 billion already received in early August and the expected soon EUR 2 billion will be provided in early December, the Ministry of Economy has reported, citing European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis.
"It is necessary to promptly complete the discussions among member states and ensure that the entire amount of macro-financial assistance actually goes to Ukraine. I hope that we will provide the next EUR 2 billion in the near future. And in early December, another EUR 3 billion," the ministry quoted him from the conference of ambassadors EU, which was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister,- Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko via video link.
According to Dombrovskis, Russian attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure prove the need for all-encompassing support for Ukraine and maximum pressure on the aggressor.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, European partners have approved the provision of EUR 19 billion to Ukraine, and now the EU is working to ensure that the funds arrive in Ukraine’s accounts as quickly as possible.
Svyrydenko said that Ukraine’s own revenues today cover only 50% of budget expenditures, and Ukraine is negotiating with the EU, the United States and the International Monetary Fund to provide comprehensive support for Ukrainian public finances in 2023.
