EU to impose new sanctions on Belarus for its role in Russian war against Ukraine – von der Leyen
BRUSSELS. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen says the European Union will come up with new sanctions, in particular for Belarus, in response to its role in the war waged by Russia against Ukraine.
She announced this on Tuesday in Brussels. "We will be coming forward with new sanctions on Belarus, answering the Belarus’ role in this Russian war in Ukraine," the President of the European Commission said.
Von der Leyen assured that the EU would keep "doing everything in its power to support the brave people of Ukraine." "We will keep the pressure on the Kremlin for as long as it takes with a biting sanctions regime. We will expand these sanctions to those who militarily support Russia’s war, such as Belarus or Iran," she explained.
In addition, the President of the European Commission assured that the EU would continue to support Ukraine financially, economically and humanitarianly for as long as necessary.
