EU to expand sanctions against Russia as soon as possible – Borrell

KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Union will introduce new sanctions against Russia in connection with its war of aggression against Ukraine as soon as possible, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell told reporters.

He said, following a meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the EU Member States on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, that the sanctions will be both personal and sectoral and they will be developed as soon as possible in coordination with the partners.

According to Borrell, the sanctions list will include representatives of the Russian leadership, as well as people involved in the preparations for pseudo-referendums in the so-called "Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics", Kherson and Zaporizhia region.

At the same time, a decision on the exact names on the sanctions list has not been made yet, he said.

The diplomat also noted that during the meeting the Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continue providing Ukraine with military assistance.
