EU Council prolongs sanctions for individuals, legal entities for undermining Ukraine's territorial integrity for further six months

BRUSSELS. Sept 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The EU Council has approved the decision to extend for another six months the sanctions concerning visa bans on entry and freezing of assets for individuals and legal entities, introduced in March 2014 for the destabilization and undermining of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

The corresponding decision was made in Brussels, the EU Council reported on Friday.

"The Council today decided to prolong the sanctions targeting those responsible for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for a further six months until 15 March 2022. The existing restrictive measures provide for travel restrictions, the freezing of assets, and a ban on making funds or other economic resources available to the listed persons and entities. Sanctions will continue to apply to 177 individuals and 48 entities," the message reads.

As reported, on September 8, the permanent representatives of the countries of the European Union decided to extend for another six months the sanctions for individuals and legal entities for destabilizing and undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

For the first time, the sanctions in the form of a ban on entry to the EU countries and an asset freeze were applied in March 2014 and have been extended every six months since then.
