EU concerned about movement of Russian troops on border with Ukraine – Borrell

BRUSSELS. Nov 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Union is concerned about the movement of Russian troops on the border of Ukraine with Russia and is closely monitoring the situation, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell has said.

On Monday in Brussels at a press conference following a meeting of EU foreign ministers, Borrell said: "We are closely monitoring the security situation on Ukraine’s eastern border." "There are facts that cause concern the movement of troops on the Russian border with Ukraine, which is very important for you. We are concerned and are watching this closely. The information is alarming," he said.

The EU High Representative said that he discussed this issue on November 14 with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. "I reaffirmed our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," Borrell said.

Answering a question whether the migration crisis created by the regime of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, whom the United States and the EU do not recognize as legally elected, is connected with the situation on the border of Russia with Ukraine, the EU High Representative said that he does not know what Lukashenko and the President of the Russian Federation are talking about. Vladimir Putin.

Borrell said it is quite obvious that Lukashenka is doing what he is doing because he has strong support from Russia. Whether it is connected or not with the movement of troops on the border with Ukraine, Borrell said he does not know. But the truth is, that U.S. Secretary Antony Blinken expressed concern in this regard, and for this he must have good reasons.

At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that after the last military exercises on the border, Russian troops left, but left a significant amount of equipment in place.

"They can be quickly deployed – the equipment is already there. The Ukrainian minister told me that they can deploy a significant number of troops in a few days, because they only move people, not heavy equipment," the EU high representative said.
