EU Ambassador urges Russia to immediately release detained Crimean Tatars

KYIV. Nov 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas called on Russia to immediately release all detained Crimean Tatars and stop persecution and intimidation in the illegally annexed Crimea.

"Condemn the repeated mass detentions of Crimean Tatars by Russia. Some 31 persons were detained recently, including women and kids. All detainees should be released immediately and persecution and intimidation in illegally annexed Crimea must stop," Maasikas said on Twitter on Thursday.

As reported, officers of the Russian OMON in Simferopol on November 23 detained 31 activists who had come to meet lawyer Edem Semedlyaev, who had been released after a 12-day arrest. Among those detained were ten women and four journalists.
