'Era of poverty' may end in 2021, but only for some MPs – Zhelezniak
KYIV. Sept 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The authorities did not lie about the end of the "poverty era" in their election promises, but did not specify for whom this era will end, and judging by the proposed coalition changes to the budget for 2021, the state offers to change life for the better only for majoritarian MPs, chairman of the Holos faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak said.
"Representatives of the coalition introduced a bill to allocate UAH 12 billion in subsidies. It seems a large amount. But if you calculate how much it will be for each citizen-subsidizer, you get UAH 4,137 by the end of the year. For whom then the ‘poverty era’ ended?" the press service of the Holos quotes Zhelezniak as saying.
The MP analyzed all the proposals of the bill on changes in expenditures in the 2021 budget. He drew attention to the fact that instead of repaying debts, increasing subsidies, and finally covering payments to doctors who are fighting the coronavirus, UAH 4 billion were allocated to the constituencies of majority MPs.
"There are only 250 constituencies, and if you divide 4 billion among them, it turns out that subsidizers will receive UAH 4,000, and MPs will receive UAH 16 million for their constituencies. It is quite unfair. Maybe it’s worth giving money directly to people instead of MPs? So that money don’t get lost on the way between MPs and people," Zhelezniak said.
