Energy Ministry to develop mechanism for issuing guarantee of origin of green electricity
KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine will develop a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on the procedure for issuing, using and terminating the guarantee of origin for electricity generated from renewable energy sources, the ministry’s press service said on Friday.
According to First Deputy Energy Minister Yuriy Vlasenko, the mechanism will reduce the amount of cross-subsidies in the electricity market.
"The launch of the confirmation mechanism, which allows confirming that electricity was produced from renewable energy sources, will potentially lead to a decrease in the volume of cross-subsidies in the electricity market and the transmission tariff for NPC Ukrenergo," Vlasenko said.
According to him, "guarantees of origin will enable Ukrainian exporters to buy exactly green electricity, which, among other things, will allow avoiding taxation on CO2 emissions on the border with EU countries.
At present, the Ministry of Energy has already begun the development of the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, which is determined by the law on alternative energy sources.
"The document is planned to be prepared as soon as possible, since the demand for such guarantees of origin is already on the market," the ministry said.
