Energy Committee proposes that Rada passes new bill on energy storage systems
KYIV. Sept 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Utility Services has supported and recommended for adoption at the first reading the bill with amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding the development of energy storage systems (ESS), finalized by the committee members.
The decision was made at a meeting of the committee on Friday broadcasted online.
The committee also supported the proposal to halve (to seven days) the deadline for submitting amendments to the bill.
According to Head of the committee Andriy Gerus (the Servant of the People parliamentary faction), the bill will soon be registered in the Rada, its author will be MP Yuriy Kamelchuk (also from the Servant of the People faction), whom Gerus urged all interested MPs to join.
During the meeting, the bill, as very relevant and important for the energy industry, was supported by Dmytro Kovalenko, a member of the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine (NEURC), and Yuriy Vlasenko, First Deputy Minister of Energy.
Prior to that, three bills regarding the ESS were registered in the Rada: No. 5436 in April 2021 by Oleksiy Kucherenko, a member of the Batkivschyna faction, No. 5436-1 by Kamelchuk and No. 5436-2 by Gerus (the latter two were registered in May).
In December 2019, Kamelchuk registered bill No. 2582 on ESS, but it was never considered.
