Energoatom conducting emergency drills at Khmelnytsky NPP

KYIV. Sept 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Energoatom on Wednesday began emergency drills at Khmelnytsky NPP in case of emergency situations in the operation of the facility during the war, the company reported on its Telegram channel.

"Energoatom is conducting emergency drills at nuclear power facilities in order to work out the actions necessary to eliminate the consequences of emergencies that may arise at a nuclear power plant in wartime conditions," the company informed.

Directly at Khmelnytsky NPP, the emergency response training is carried out according to the conditional scenario "Utility accident caused by an emergency situation of a military nature and leading to the loss of power for the own needs of power unit No. 1 and the failure of equipment at the nuclear power plant."

"The main objective of this training is to work out the procedure in case of occurrence of a radiation accident at Khmelnytsky NPP and to inspect the readiness of all services and authorities that will be involved in the elimination of its consequences," Energoatom noted.

For this purpose, the interaction of divisions of Energoatom, the authorities and civil protection services for emergency response is being worked out, the operability of equipment and systems that can be used to eliminate the consequences of the accident is checked, the company specified.

A forecast of possible scenarios of the accident and its consequences is also being made, in particular, a possible change in the radiation situation in the region.
