EBRD expects Moldova's economy to contract 1.3% in 2023
CHISINAU. Feb 16 (Interfax) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) forecasts Moldova’s economy to contract 1.3% in 2023, according to the EBRD’s latest Regional Economic Prospects report released on Thursday.
“Declining real incomes and ongoing energy disruptions are likely to result in a recession in the second half of the year in Moldova, albeit a milder recession compared to 2022,” according to the report.
The EBRD last September forecast zero economic growth in the country for 2023.
The bank expects Moldova’s GDP to grow 3.5% in 2024.
According to the EBRD, the country’s economy contracted 4.7% last year. Data on Moldova’s GDP dynamics in 2022 have not yet been published. The authorities have forecast that it would decrease 3% compared to 2021.
