During Rosh Hashanah celebration, no gross violations recorded – police

KYIV. Sept 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Law enforcement officers ensured public safety during the celebration of Rosh Hashanah in Uman, no gross violations were recorded, the press service of the National Police of Ukraine said.

"In general, the situation is under control. Some 21 reports of the presence of Hasidic pilgrims have been recorded. There are two open criminal proceedings related to the sale of substances similar to narcotic drugs. There are also two administrative protocols, based on the results of which decisions will be made regarding the expulsion from the territory of Ukraine with a ban on the entry of certain Hasidim who committed offenses in the city of Uman," Deputy Head of the Department of Preventive Activities of the National Police Anatoliy Seredinsky.

It is noted that on the evening of September 8, Hasidim started to leave Uman for their countries of permanent residence. In order to ensure law and order during the departure of pilgrims, reinforced patrol patrols are working at the places of boarding the buses, as well as reinforced auto patrols along the route of movement and increased security measures at airports.

"In general, due to the well-coordinated work of the State Emergency Service, the police, the National Guard and the Migration Service, we have minimized any kind of provocation and offenses during the stay of the pilgrims in the city of Uman," Seredinsky said.

Israeli police spokesman Michael Zingerman, in turn, said the Ukrainian and Israeli police worked professionally, accurately and effectively.

"Together we did everything necessary for everything to go smoothly. Together we patrolled the streets, did everything to ensure security and public order during Rosh Hashanah," he said.

Police officers continue to be on heavy duty in the pilgrimage area.
