DTEK Energy TPPs increase electricity supply by 13% in Jan-Oct

KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – DTEK Energy thermal power plants (TPP) in January-October 2021 increased electricity supply by 13% (by 2.3 billion kWh) compared to the same period last year – up to 20.2 billion kWh, the press service of the company reported.

According to its data, in October the supply of electricity by thermal generation from DTEK amounted to almost 2.5 billion kWh, which is 15% higher than in October 2020. This year, the volume of supply was large only in January – at the height of the heating season, when more than 2.7 billion kWh were supplied to the power system.

"Due to minimal load on other thermal generation enterprises, DTEK Energy TPPs were forced to bear an increased load and compensate for the power shortage in the system. At the end of October alone, from 28 to 30 units of DTEK Energy TPPs out of about 36 of all TPP and CHPP units operating in the power system were operating simultaneously in the system," the press service noted.

To meet the needs of the heating season, DTEK Energy TPPs use their own coal, which in the ten months amounted to more than 13.7 million tonnes of gas grade coal, as well as imported. To date, the volumes of contracted coal from Poland, the United States, Kazakhstan have exceeded 700,000 tonnes. At the same time, in September-October, DTEK Energy imported more than 356,000 tonnes of coal.

"In the event of further downtime of other generation, our TPPs will continue to be ready to lend their shoulders and bear additional load. After all, our common goal is to do everything possible for the reliability and continuity of the Ukrainian energy system, so that during peak periods and the heating season, Ukrainians have light and heat. The situation, the challenges that the whole world is facing today require it. This is the global energy crisis, and the deficit and record prices for energy resources," Ildar Saleev, the CEO of DTEK Energy, said.
