Documents needed for Nord Stream 2 certification filed with German regulator, to be processed within 4 months

BERLIN. Sept 13 (Interfax) – Documents needed for certifying the Nord Stream 2 enterprise as an independent gas transport operator have been filed with Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) and will be processed within four months, agency press secretary Fiete Wulff told Interfax.

"The enterprise has provided all documents, and we have up to four months by law to process them and make a decision; then the decision is due to be relayed to the European Commission," Wulff said.

In his words, this is not about launching the gas pipeline, but only about its certification and compliance with provisions of the EU Gas Directive. The enterprise may be fined if the gas pipeline has no Bundesnetzagentur certificate by the commissioning date. Other agencies will make decisions regarding the pipeline commissioning.
