Doctor doesn’t advise Pope to visit Ukraine or Russia

KYIV. Sept 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Pope Francis said that his attending physician opposes the idea of a visit to Ukraine or Russia because of his health condition, the website of CNN Portugal channel reports, to which the pontiff gave an interview.

"The topic of the trip is in limbo. I don’t know yet," he said, answering a question about the possibility of a visit to Ukraine or Russia.

The pontiff added that he is "in constant contact" with Moscow and Kyiv.

According to him, his doctor is against such trips because of his health condition, in particular, because of a knee injury, the recovery of which has slowed down due to a recent trip to Canada. The pontiff’s attending physician then stated that he should not make visits to any countries at least until his trip to Kazakhstan scheduled for September 13-15.
