Development of sea-railroad infrastructure to be among main tasks of Big Construction program – minister
KYIV. Sept 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine plans to develop railway infrastructure in communication with seaports, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported on the website on Tuesday.
"Ukraine cannot ignore the demand and potential of multimodal transportation, in particular with Asian countries, therefore, the renewal and development of infrastructure for the sea-railroad format will be one of the main tasks of the Big Construction program in the coming years," Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov said.
According to him, Ukraine has great export potential and the new team of the ministry is actively working on its development.
"It is important for us to integrate into the global system of multimodal transportation, which is expanding rapidly and determines modern logistics. For example, in the EU, the share of container traffic is about 45%. In Ukraine, this is only about 2.5%," Kubrakov said.
At present, according to him, Ukraine cannot make full use of its geographical position, since in fact its railway and port infrastructure is still outdated.
As reported, Ukrzaliznytsia launched a container train with export cargo to China and plans to make such trips regular in the future.
Negotiations on the development of export potential have been held between Ukraine and China for a long time. This issue was also raised by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during the YES Brainstorming 2021.
