Despite Russia's terrorist actions, AFU continue to advance in south of Ukraine – Humeniuk
KYIV. Oct 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the Joint Press Center of the Defense Forces of the Pivden (South) Operational Command Natalia Humeniuk has said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) continue to advance in the south of the country even despite the terrorist actions of the Russian invaders who are trying to intimidate the Ukrainians.
"We continue to carry out tasks as intended, including advancing in Kherson direction, despite the terrorist attacks on civilians," Humeniuk said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
According to her, the occupiers use, in particular, ships in the Black Sea for launching missile strikes against Ukraine.
Humeniuk also pointed to the high level of effectiveness of the AFU’s fight against the use of Iranian-made kamikaze drones.
"Without taking into account the morning attack, when five kamikaze drones were shot down over Mykolaiv region at dawn and three were shot down over Odesa, we had a figure of 74 such drones that were shot down in our area of responsibility, and there are 34 hits. Therefore, we say that the effectiveness of our counteraction to these drones is at least 50%," she said.
Humeniuk added that some of the drone strikes were valuable from a military point of view.
"Sometimes they just hit the coast, for example, of the Kakhovka reservoir, or along the water area, for example, the port of Ochakiv. They did not cause damage, but in fact there were strikes," she said.
