KYIV. Sept 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Deposit Guarantee Fund early repaid UAH 2 billion of debt to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, of which UAH 1.2 billion in promissory notes and UAH 0.87 billion of interest.
According to a report on the fund website on Monday, taking into account the payment, the balance of the regulator’s debt obligations is UAH 45.7 billion in the form of bills and even more than UAH 62.5 billion of interest.
"The Fund continued the early repayment of debt on loans taken from the state to make guaranteed payments to depositors in 2014-2017."
Taking into account this early repayment, the regulator returned more than half of the total amount of its loans attracted from the Ministry of Finance and the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in 2014-2017 – UAH 47.3 billion. In particular, the fund fully paid off the debt to the central bank in the amount of UAH 25.6 billion (including UAH 5.5 billion of interest), and also the fund repaid UAH 21.7 billion (UAH 7.9 billion of interest) of debt to Ministry of Finance.
"Today, the total amount of debt to the state is UAH 108.2 billion. In the near future, we expect the Verkhovna Rada to pass a bill that provides for the restructuring of the remainder of this debt, in particular, the repayment of interest through proceeds from collecting losses from persons involved in bringing banks to bankruptcy," the fund said.
