'Deoligarchisation' law can play role in reducing harmful effects of vested interests on Ukraine politics, economy – British Ambassador
KYIV. Sept 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons has said that the de-oligarchisation law could play a role in reducing the negative impact of corporate interests on Ukrainian politics and economy.
"The ‘deoligarchisation law’ can play a role in reducing the harmful effects of vested interests on Ukraine politics and economy. It will need to be implemented legally and apolitically," Simmons wrote on Twitter Thursday.
Simmons noted that the increased transparency, decisive anti monopoly measures, real competition in the energy sector, a strong public broadcaster, and of course judicial reform, will all be needed "to make this step a lasting reality."
As reported, on September 23, the Verkhovna Rada supported by 279 votes the bill "On preventing threats to national security associated with the excessive influence of persons with significant economic or political weight in public life (oligarchs)", the so-called "de-oligarchisation law."
