Denounced agreement on cooperation in fisheries with Russia not actually effective – State Fisheries Agency

KYIV. May 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An intergovernmental agreement between Ukraine and the aggressor country, Russia, on cooperation in the field of fisheries, denounced by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on April 29, has not actually been implemented before.

"We initiated this step last year, long before the start of the war. The agreement lasted 20 years, most of which did not actually work," Artem Ripenko, head of the State Fisheries Agency of Ukraine, wrote on Facebook on Sunday evening.

At the same time, the State Fisheries Agency initiated the breaking of another interstate agreement with the Russian Federation concerning the regulation of fisheries in the Sea of Azov and the mechanism of work of the relevant Ukrainian-Russian commission.

"We believe that, thanks to the support of the entire civilized world, Ukraine will definitely return control over Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donetsk regions and, accordingly, our coast of the Sea of Azov in full. After that, we will immediately raise the issue of restoring the fishery by Ukrainian fishermen. We will not give up our territory, our sea, or our biological resources to the enemy!" Ripenko summed up in the message.

As reported, the said agreement between the countries was signed in September 1992.
