Delivery time via Kazakh section of Trans-Caspian International Transport Route halves
ASTANA. March 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Delivery time for freight shipped via the Kazakh section of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) has been reduced by half and now takes six days.
“The freight time in transit through Kazakhstan has been reduced from 12 days to six days from last year and will be brought down to five days by the end of 2023,” the government said on Friday after the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov.
“After removing bottlenecks and introducing through tariffs, the delivery time for cargoes from China to the Black Sea ports on the Trans-Caspian route has been decreased from 38-53 to 19-23 days, and by the end of the current year should go down to 14-18 days,” according to the statement.
The Cabinet also discussed measures to upgrade the rolling stock and expand the merchant fleet and the capacities of the Aktau and Kuryk ports.
“The port of Aktau plans to create a container hub, renew the transshipment equipment and restore operations of the oil berth. A new oil berth, and multipurpose and grain terminals will be built in the port of Kuryk,” according to the statement.
The ports are also expected to launch 10 oil barges, eight ferries, six tankers and a container ship that will start operating in the Caspian Sea by 2030.
The government also considered the issue of preparing an agreement between Kazakhstan and China to simplify customs procedures and guarantee freight traffic on the TITR route.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor.
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey signed a roadmap for 2022-2027 on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, for the simultaneous elimination of bottlenecks. The implementation of the roadmap will allow for an increase in the TITR’s throughput capacity to 10 million tonnes per year by 2025.
